Janicki Industries is an innovative, family-owned aerospace company located at the foot of the Cascades. We focus on engineering and manufacturing complex projects for companies in the aerospace, defense, and space industries. We are looking for a Flow Forming/Heat Treat Engineer to join our growing team.

This position is located on-site in Sedro Woolley, Washington State. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

The Flow Forming/Heat Treat Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting manufacturing processes related to flow forming, heat treatment, and associated metallurgical operations for aerospace components. This role ensures that all processes meet rigorous aerospace standards for quality, performance, and repeatability while supporting continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives. The position requires execution of the following essential job functions:

  • Develop, document, and improve flow forming and heat treatment processes to meet aerospace specifications and customer requirements
  • Define process parameters and controls to ensure consistent dimensional accuracy, mechanical properties, and metallurgical integrity
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies, tooling, and automation to improve process capability and throughput
  • Provide daily technical support to manufacturing operations, troubleshooting process and equipment issues in real time
  • Lead root cause analyses and corrective action implementation for nonconformances or process deviations
  • Support shop floor personnel with technical guidance, process training, and best practices for flow forming and heat treat operations
  • Ensure processes comply with customer, AS9100, and NADCAP standards
  • Develop and maintain process documentation including work instructions, process control plans, FMEAs, and validation reports
  • Support audits, process qualifications, and customer source inspections
  • Collaborate with design engineering on manufacturability, material selection, and heat treat requirements during product development
  • Support cost estimation and new product introduction (NPI) efforts related to flow forming and heat treat capabilities
  • Utilize statistical process control (SPC), data acquisition, and analytical methods to monitor and improve process performance
  • Develop and track KPIs for process capability, quality, and efficiency
  • Behavior: The incumbent must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines.  The incumbent shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors
  • Being at work on time and maintaining good attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Due to our ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be a US Citizen or of Legal Permanent Resident Status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a) (3).
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required).  Janicki will assist with gaining this access once employed. Special Access Program or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position and requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field required
  • 3+ years of experience in flow forming, metal forming, or heat treat process engineering (preferably in aerospace or high-spec manufacturing) preferred
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials such as titanium, aluminum, Inconel, and stainless steels
  • Experience with NADCAP heat treat requirements, AMS/ASTM specs, and metallurgical testing preferred
  • Strong understanding of material science principles, residual stress control, and microstructure-property relationships
  • Familiarity with flow forming machines, furnaces, pyrometry, and temperature control systems
  • Proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent) and data analysis tools (Minitab, Excel)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on precision, quality, and process discipline
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

  • Salary range for this role is between $80,000 - $140,000, plus discretionary bonus, 401(k) matching, vacation, and health benefits. Employees can also receive additional pay for off-shifts. The range provided is Janicki’s estimate of the base compensation for this role. Actual amount offered will be based on job-related and non-discriminatory factors such as experience, location, education, training, skills, and abilities
