Janicki Industries is an innovative, family-owned aerospace company located at the foot of the Cascades. We focus on engineering and manufacturing complex projects for companies in the aerospace, defense, and space industries. We are looking for an Application Engineer to join our growing team.
This position is located on-site in Hamilton, Washington State.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Application Engineer serves as the platform owner for our digital manufacturing environment built on Siemens NX and VERICUT. The focus is on building and governing the assets and automation that enable manufacturing at scale—posts, simulation models, templates, method libraries, and supporting tools—while landing changes safely through disciplined testing, version control, and documentation. Rather than producing day-to-day part programs, this role translates shop floor requirements into robust, reusable solutions; troubleshoots toolpath and post behavior; and validates fixes when hands-on verification is necessary. Close partnership with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and IT/PLM keeps integrations healthy, data consistent, and users supported, improving throughput, quality, and schedule predictability in an export-controlled, security-conscious setting.
Core Responsibilities:
- NX CAM Platform & Post Processing:
- Serve as a platform owner for NX CAM: evaluate and implement changes to templates, method libraries, tooling databases, and environment variables; manage impact and change control
- Provide expert-level toolpath and post troubleshooting: interpret NC programmer intent, reproduce issues, and deliver fixes or guidance
- Develop, configure, and maintain post processors for Siemens 840D/828D, Fanuc 30i/31i/32i, and Mazatrol; implement/test machine options, probing/custom subroutines, and shop G/M code standards
- Create/maintain CAM templates and programming standards that enable front-line programmers
- VERICUT Simulation & Digital Twins:
- Build and maintain VERICUT simulation kits (machine/control files, kinematics, tool libraries, stock/fixture models) for Haas, Makino, Mazak, and DMG MORI platforms.
- Define and maintain verification standards and sign-off criteria; support teams executing verification and assist with difficult triage/collision cases.
- Leverage AUTO DIFF/force optimization where appropriate and establish guidance for when/how to apply it.
- Software Engineering & Automation
- Design, implement, and test internal engineering tools using Python, TCL, C#, and C++ (e.g., NXOpen journals, data pipelines, post-processing helpers).
- Use Git/GitHub for version control and Visual Studio/VS Code for development and debugging; write unit/functional tests where practical.
- Author user documentation and training content; support code reviews and change management.
- Systems, IT & Data Integration
- Troubleshoot application/IT issues spanning NX, VERICUT, licensing, drivers, and ERP interfaces; collaborate with IT to resolve.
- Support data accuracy and process governance (PDM/PLM/ERP links, revision control, tool libraries).
- Process Development, Training & Liaison
- Operate primarily at the macro level: define processes, programming standards, simulation sign off, and guardrails that enable scalable, high-quality execution by front-line programmers.
- When needed, engage at the micro level to unlock a production issue, then fold learnings back into standards, templates, or tools.
- Create concise training manuals and deliver hands-on training; contribute to SOPs and the knowledge base.
- Partner with full-time Manufacturing Engineers (who own mechanical/process design) to ensure tools and standards align with real shop needs; familiarity with mechanical/manufacturing fundamentals is valuable, but this role does not replace ME responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Due to our ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be a US Citizen or of Legal Permanent Resident Status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a) (3).
- This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). Janicki will assist with gaining this access once employed. Special Access Program or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position and requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an Engineering discipline (e.g., Mechanical, Manufacturing/Engineering Technology, Industrial)
- Demonstrated ability in at least two of the following domains (we will train strong candidates to close gaps):
- NX CAM platform administration & toolpath troubleshooting (impact analysis, templates/methods/tool libraries; not day-to-day production programming
- VERICUT setup, simulation standards, and simulation kit building
- Post-processor development (Siemens/Fanuc/Mazatrol)
- Software development for engineering tools (Python, TCL, C#, C++; NXOpen/journals/scripts)
- Git/GitHub, Visual Studio/VS Code, basic testing/CI concept
- PLM/ERP integration for manufacturing — Teamcenter (preferred) and ERP (e.g., SAP); manufacturing documentation and revision control
- CNC machining fundamentals (work holding, tooling, feeds/speeds, probing) sufficient to inform tool design and troubleshooting
- Cross-functional communication, training, and project coordination
- Clear, concise communication; strong troubleshooting mindset; bias for documentation and repeatability
- Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years combined across CAM/VERICUT/post development and/or software automation.
- Machine tool exposure: Haas, Makino, Mazak, DMG MORI (HMC/VMC/5 axis/UMC style).
- Control exposure: Siemens 840D/828D, Fanuc 30i/31i/32i, Mazatrol.
- 5 axis kinematics understanding; probing cycles; macro programming; coolant through/tool data conventions.
- Experience creating VERICUT machine/control definitions and validating complex fixtures/angle heads.
- Teamcenter (PLM) administration or deep user experience (NX ↔ Teamcenter integrations, change management, release workflows); SAP ERP familiarity; lean manufacturing/continuous improvement; authoring and delivering technical training.
