We focus on engineering and manufacturing complex projects for companies in the aerospace, defense, and space industries. We are looking for an Engineering Manager - Maintenance to join our growing team.
This position is located on-site in Hamilton, Washington State.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Engineering Manager – Maintenance leads and develops the engineering teams that support maintenance operations in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for providing technical direction, driving process improvements, and ensuring equipment reliability to support production goals. The Engineering Manager - Maintenance will partner closely with maintenance, production, and quality teams to optimize performance, reduce downtime, and maintain compliance with aerospace industry standards.
The following essential job functions are performed as a Engineering Manager - Maintenance:
- Lead the planning and execution of scheduled maintenance events (short- and long-term) across production and facilities
- Oversee the development and implementation of Preventive Maintenance Inspection (PMI) and Planned Maintenance (PM) procedures to maximize asset uptime and address unplanned failures
- Direct and prioritize engineering support for equipment breakdowns, fault diagnosis, and resolution to minimize production downtime
- Provide leadership and guidance to engineering and technical staff to ensure effective coordination of equipment modifications and repairs with minimal production impact
- Manage, coach, and develop maintenance engineering teams, fostering technical growth, problem-solving skills, and career development
- Approve and guide the design, build, or procurement of specialized components, fixtures, or parts to support maintenance repairs or equipment upgrades
- Stay current with emerging equipment, technologies, and maintenance best practices, introducing improvements where beneficial
- Maintain an operational overview of production processes and facilities, collaborating with management to implement enhancements for optimal results
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, 5S, AS9100, and Nadcap standards in all maintenance and engineering activities
- Oversee vendor relationships for equipment, materials, and parts procurement, including negotiation, specification review, and capital equipment installation and commissioning
- Identify and manage critical spare part requirements for new and existing equipment to reduce downtime risks
- Ensure accurate documentation and control of engineering drawings, records, revisions, and updates
- Partner with Operations Managers to identify risks in the production process and lead mitigation strategies
- Review and approve maintenance-related test procedures, results, and recommendations for changes to products or methods
- Oversee planning of facility-level systems, including air, vacuum, piping, and building automation (BACnet) systems
- Drive accountability for meeting deadlines, maintaining high performance under pressure, and ensuring strong attendance across the maintenance engineering team
- Perform other related leadership duties as assigned.
- Files, drafts, retrieves, and maintains engineering drawings, records, revisions and updates, as needed
- Aides with recording test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and provides recommendations for changes in product or test method
QUALIFICATIONS
- Due to our ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be a US Citizen or of Legal Permanent Resident Status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a) (3).
- This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). Janicki will assist with gaining this access once employed. Special Access Program or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position and requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering/engineering technology, mechanical engineering, industrial design technology, or a similar field is required with an emphasis in robotics or automation is preferred.
- 8+ years of engineering and maintenance experience in a manufacturing or aerospace environment, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or management role
Proven track record of managing engineering or maintenance teams in a high-compliance, safety-critical industry
Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance strategies and equipment reliability
Strong knowledge of aerospace/defense industry standards (AS9100, Nadcap)
Demonstrated success in vendor management, capital equipment procurement, and installation/commissioning
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to coach and develop technical teams
Must have effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language
Must be willing and able to obtain a government issued security clearance
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Salary range for this role is between $100,000 - $150,000, plus discretionary bonus, 401(k) matching, vacation, and health benefits. Employees can also receive additional pay for off-shifts. The range provided is Janicki’s estimate of the base compensation for this role. Actual amount offered will be based on job-related and non-discriminatory factors such as experience, location, education, training, skills, and abilities
